About
Meet Sammy,
An Australian-based artist who creates vibrant, evocative Modern Folk artwork exploring the deep connection between women, nature, and the universe. Through layered symbolism, rich colour palettes, and fluid forms, her work invites viewers to slow down, breathe, and feel grounded in existence.
my journey,
Growing up in Singapore from age 13 and moving between Sydney, Western Australia, Canada, and Tasmania, my life has been defined by travel, curiosity, and shifting seasons. As a natural empath, I find inspiration in the beauty of all living things—from the quiet rhythm of the ocean to the warmth of the sun.
Art has always been my anchor. Navigating personal health challenges—eventually led me back to my love for painting as a way to find clarity and grounding.
The meaning behind the canvas..
My work centres around the core message "We Are All One"—the belief that women and the natural world share an inherent, sacred bond. To bring this philosophy to life, I use recurring symbols across my paintings:
-
The recurring figures are intentionally faceless, serving as an everyday archetype for the viewer rather than a specific portrait.
Wearing signature wide-brimmed hats, these grounded figures represent introspection, mindfulness and a quiet sense of personal power. They exist in a timeless space, inviting anyone looking at the canvas to step into that moment of stillness.
-
Celestial bodies play a central role in building a dreamlike, magical realist atmosphere across the canvas.
Oversized moons and stars bridge the gap between the everyday landscape and the cosmos. Rather than just setting the time of day, they symbolise dualities - balance, the passage of time, and the invisible energy connecting our immediate surroundings to the wider universe.
-
The objects that the figures carry or hold - such as fish, potted plants, flowers, snakes etc - serve as a bridge to the natural world.
When you look closely at these elements, they are treated almost like quiet offerings, reflecting a deep respect for nature and the ways we care for and draw life from the living things around us.
